 Aikido is a Budo, a Japanese martial art of self defense, and also a way
of life. Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei (1883-1969) who
mastered Jujutsu, Kenjutsu, and many other Japanese traditional martial
arts before fusing his own learning into a modern martial art. He was a
person that preached the love of the universe. So Aikido was developed
as a method of physical and mental training. In contrast to many other
martial arts Aikido has no competitions, and is better known as an art
of self defense than of attack, because of its fundamental philosophy of
spiritual harmony and peace making. The purpose of Aikido is to train one's
spirit with techniques that are learned as a result of body movements that
occur during repeated practice. Nowadays, so many people can enjoy Aikido
practice in the world.
